Squaw Valley Avalanche
Just a little recap of what happened yesterday at Squaw Valley USA. A rumor spread around the hill like wildfire that an inbounds avalanche occurred somewhere on KT-22. From the reports that I heard, dead tree, slid after only a half hour of it being opened to the public. According to patrol 2 charges had been thrown in that area and the slide was aided by the public skiing it. 4 individuals were recovered from the slide with injuries ranging from broken legs, tib/fib breaks and a dislocated knee. Members of the Ski school and public were included in the search for anymore remaining people that could have been trapped. Patrol opened more of the mountain later in the day including Sunnyside and warmed against certain areas due to wind load and continuing snowfall. Their biggest warning was for areas in the trees that may still be unstable. Accidents happen, ski with a buddy, never traverse above someone else and wear you beacon!
