Skating in Truckee

Ok, Truckee isn't really known as a skate town since it is buried in snow for about 6 months in the year. The fact of the matter is, summer is here and for those of us who crave the snow have to find alternate methods of outdoor enjoyment. There are quite a few damn good skaters in the Tahoe Basin and about 9 yrs ago the Town of Truckee put in a small but kick ass park after years of barking from OG snowboard legends like Noah Salaznek, Aaron Vincent & Kevin Jones. For the past few days Andy Finch and I have been sessioning the Truckee Skate Park like 13 yr olds who've been slamming Slupree's at 7-Eleven. Our park here is definitely more of a snowboarder/surfer type park since it has flowy bowl lines with just a few street features. For those of you who skate in the valley when its 100+ degrees, get out of heat & come session this alpine gem. If you really want to see some great skating, roll in during the early evening session. It's pretty heavy out there and you'll see some action go down. You may even see new eastcoast transplant snowboard/skating ruler Chas Guldemond giving the place a good old fashioned lashing! For those of you who like to take it easy and don't wand to get "vibed" out, visit the park in the early morning. During this time you may run into another snowboard OG, Keith Kimmel, who in his 40's will make you question your skating abilities. When you get all spent, you can roll down to the Truckee river for a dip or go across the street to the "Sevi" and get a Slurpee!
