The two titans of the Tahoe City retail universe collided last night in a D-League softball game for the ages. First place Dave’s and the last place Porters Victory Juggernaut- two teams whose players may know each other a little too well- battled it out at a field that was spitting distance from both stores.
Dave’s, known until that moment as the Goliath of the D-League, wore intimidating black uniforms that actually say “Daves”, which is really legit and I was a bit jealous of that. Porters, known until that moment as the puny David of the league, came prepared with razor-sharp focus…well, as focused as you can be when you show up utterly hammered. Both teams played very well, trading runs over the first few innings. Porters was at a slight disadvantage until the arrival of our secret weapon, Lil’ P, otherwise known as Michelle Parker. She is an animal! Using flawless pitching from Chappy and encouragement from special guests Harley, Eleanor, Chase, and Bella Chapman, the Porters team began to pull away in the final innings.
As Porters made the final out, with the score at 12-6, they were finally released from the shame of being “100% defeated” for the season. Now, we are only “mostly defeated” with a 1-3 record. Big B again wowed the crowd with amazing Willie Mays catches and solid clutch hitting, getting game MVP without question.
Many delicious drinks were then shared between the two teams at Pete and Peters, as players all understood that the best way to celebrate a win- or a loss- is Jager shots and beers. We all now look forward to an epic rematch later this summer.
