Floatin' the Truckee
Ever since the indigenous Washoe Indians began floating down the Truckee River in 900 B.C. as a form of relaxation and fun, floating from Tahoe City to the River Ranch has been a summer tradition for locals and visitors alike.
Much has changed since those early days. Back then, the tribe primarily used the primitive River Run 1 by Intex, and the police rode saber-toothed tigers along the bikepath, rather than bikes, which had not yet been invented. Alcohol was consumed out of hollowed-out gourds. Today, most people use the more recent River Run 2, still made almost 3,000 years later by the venerable Intex Corporation. It is sought after thanks to its inflatable headrest and mesh bottom. We drink alcohol out of space-age cans that feature Frost-Brew Liners and futuristic wide-mouth openings (now with Air Vent!). And the cops were forced to abandon saber-tooth tigers due to their untimely extinction in the mid-1970's.
The Porters Warehouse Crew, in addition to former Tahoe locals Rockwood and Davis, in addition to our friends Ryan and Jamie and their 20 Bay Area friends, were all on the river this weekend for some good times. Fun was had. Oh, and we almost killed, but then saved, a little kid... see last photo.
