This past weekend I took the family up to beautiful Bozeman Montana or as my 3 year old daughter calls it Hannah Ontana for a family wedding. I always thought Montana would be third world back country craziness but man what a surprise. Bozeman is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Bozeman is a high plain surrounded on all sides by towering mountains with a downtown that still has a rustic cattle town look. Add a college to the mix, throw in a dash of ski life and a famous park known as Yellowstone only 2 hours down the road and you have a great central town for all that you might need.
First of all as the old saying goes when in Rome is a motto I always like to stick by so we hit up a local brewery call the Montana Ale Works. They have some great beers on tap as well as some great food. Another local treat is a tapas restaurant known as "Over The Tapas", I would suggest the Pepitos (Flank Steak, Chimichurri, Red Onion, Manchego) so good. And last but not least and a very surprisingly good meal only because most hotel food sucks was the Hilton Garden Inn breakfast.
Sorry with all the food critiques I just like to help the weary traveler with some good food insight. So back to why I was really there, the wedding. Bozeman is a great place fore a wedding, many churches and many spots for the reception. The wedding was held downtown and the reception was held at Bridgerbowl ski resort.
If you go to their website and look at the lodges on the trail map one might think that a good spot for a reception would be at the base, but that would be too easy, we traveled up to the Deer Park Chalet located almost half way up. Add a torrential down pour to the drive and some twisty mountain roads and you have a road that's stupidly fun to drive up in a rental car. Once the rain stopped and the clouds cleared we were greeted with a beautiful sight of clouds hanging in the lower valleys.
Every day we were there, like clock work a storm would roll through and the last day we were lucky enough to see not 1 but a double rainbow. And again add the mountains as a back drop and what a stunning way to end the trip. If you ever get a chance ti escape to the north visit Bozeman Montana (or Hanna Ontana as lilli calls it) and enjoy!
