Porters Softball Alive in Playoffs

The Invincible Porters Softball Juggernaut of Destiny survived our first round Playoff game against Tahoe City Pharmacy last night, and will advance to the Final 4 next Thursday night against the talented Thyme To Plant. Porters started with hot bats, scoring 6 runs early. Pharmacy was not to be left behind, quickly tying the score back up in the early innings. In the 4th, the scored was tied at 8-8 when a Pharmacy batter smoked a line drive right at 2B Jenn Marks, who got nailed right in the thumb, and the ball bounced into the outfield. 3 runs eventually scored, and suddenly Porters felt the game slipping away. However, we took advantage of a bases-loaded situation when Nate B. stepped to the plate and casually smacked a Grannie. Porters used that momentum to blow the game wide open in the final inning, scoring several runs to make it 20-12, final score. Porters finally beat a team that we lost to twice this season, and set ourselves up for a great challenge vs. Thyme to Plant. The defining themes of the game were impeccable defense by the likes of Alicia R., Kevin, Finn, and others, and a true team contribution at the plate.

Every game, but especially BIG games, are remembered not in their entirety but as a series of memorable moments that helped define the game: Kevin diving backwards into the outfield to catch a pop up behind him. Houston racing to third to take advantage of an error on a single. Danielle's in-the-park home run, not to mention her incredible efforts at first base; at one point, she mishandled a line drive, allowing the batter to reach first- but instead of settling, she raced to get the ball and threw to third, where Chappy tagged out the lead runner. It was an awesome recovery. In the outfield, Mark C. threw himself into the fence to attempt a catch, then bounced right off the fence to chase down the ball, which held the runner to a disappointing double. Kevin and Finn each had plays involving laser throws to Chappy at third to tag out a sliding runner. Actually both times it was the same feisty Pharmacy player, who played bravely and sacrificed her body multiple times whilst sliding. And did I mention Nate's grand slam?

A victory celebration ensued at Pete N' Peters, where all the D-League Teams had converged in a "Perfect Storm" of winners, losers, townies, and fans, and friends. We were sad to see our friends at Dave's bow out, as we hoped to face them again this season. Congrats to Pete's, Long Ballz Jazzersize Edition, and Thyme to Plant for advancing to the Final Four. Until Next Week.
