Boreal Grand Prix: Day 1

Sunscreen! It was a beautiful & sunny day out at Boreal today. It was the Halfpipe Finals today on the mountain and you couldn't have asked for better conditions. This is the largest halfpipe I have ever seen at Boreal...BIG & TIGHT! The best US halfpipe riders were in attendace including: Louie Vitto, Steve Fisher, Elijah Teeter, Kelly Clark, Gretchen Blieler & Hannah Teeter. Though the pipe was tall, it was rather short. Most of the riders are used to getting at least 6-7 hits...this pipe was only allowing 4-5...6 if you were lucky. The riders put on a great show boosting out of the perfectly shaped ditch. My favorite was watching Elijah combo that Backside 7 into that switch method...so stylie & smooth...like Bob Burnquist on a snowboard! Kelly & Hannah were sending it the moon keeping things big & smooth. It was nice seeing everyone in the event slowing their rotations down and not participating in the huck whirly bird fest we're used to seeing at the X Games.
In the end it was as follows:
Men:
1st Steve Fisher
2nd Louie Vitto
3rd Dylan Bidez
Women:
1st Hannah Teeter
2nd Kelly Clark
3rd Gretchen Blieler
The boardercross gets underway tomorrow as we'll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Nate Holland.
Go Nate!

Big props to Boreal for charging money to walk up the hill and watch the event.. Grand Prix's have been FREE ever since it started 10+ years ago! Gotta love it.
