Holmes Racing takes 6th at Bud Light Dash 200

well, 2008 was a mixed bag for Holmes Racing. My uncle, John Holmes, won the Baja 1000 for his class, but me and my dad, in his new class 7200 truck, we could not even manage to finish a race, until the last one of the year that is, the Bud Light Dash 200 inn Plaster City on New Years Eve. We were forced to enter Class 1, the unlimited open class, as there was no 7 unlimited class in the dash. This put us against the fastest trophy trucks and big dollar buggies on the course. We took the approach of just racing to put miles on the truck and work out the bugs, we pitted every lap (which you would never do in a competitive approach) working closely with our sponsor, Bilstein Shock Absorbers to fine tune the suspension on this relatively new truck.
Somehow, to our surprise, we ended up 6th. Maybe the big guns did not show, or maybe they crashed, or maybe we are just fast as hell and had been previously plagued with bad luck earlier in the year, but it was a nice end of the year confidence boost going into the 09 racing season. Look for HR in the Best of the Desert Racing Series based primarily in Nevada. There are 6 races next year. www.bitd.com
