2010 Burton Seconds / Cosmetic Blem Snowboards

For a few years now we here at PortersTahoe have offered Burton "Seconds" - aka cosmetic blems (blemished) - for sale at 10% less than the full, normal retail price known as the "manufacturer's suggested retail price" or MSRP. Well for 2010 we yet again have a wide assortment of new Burton snowboards that are seconds.....and are again 10% less than the normal MSRP.

What is a second exactly? Well first and foremost it IS NOT a pre-used snowboard. None of the seconds has ever been ridden. None of the seconds has any structural issues either. All Burton seconds come with the same one-year warranty as a first quality snowboard. How a board becomes a second is a simple explanation. All of Burton's snowboards have a final, human "quality control" (QC) check process. If there are structural issues the board is just flat out a loss to Burton and it can't be sold at any price. However, if the board simply has a cosmetic imperfection, then it goes into the "seconds" pile.

These blemishes are usually confined to a few common mistakes. First is the base. When you have pieces of ptex that are diecut, every now and then the pieces do not mate up perfectly. This leaves a small gap between the ptex pieces....usually only a couple of millimeters. So Burton will take some filler ptex (often clear) and plug the gap. Your second board's base will still be completely flat with no gaps and accept wax just fine and fly down the hill just as fast as a first quality.

Two other common second issues are on the edges / sidewall and the topsheet graphic. As for the edge / sidewall, sometimes the edge does not completely mate back up with itself and again there's a small gap just like with what can happen to the ptex diecut base pieces. Again filler material can be used here. Same thing with the sidewall material although it's less common to see that happen. The other main thing is the topsheet graphic. Sometimes the graphic can be off-center a tiny bit....like tilted 7 degrees or something small that you couldn't tell unless it was sitting side by side with a first quality. Often there can be slight discoloration issues too.....or put another way a shade off in a certain color in the topsheet graphic. Reds are a common one to deal with as the red in a certain second board maybe came out too light compared to the color of red in a first quality board.

Again with all of these things, though, they are extremely small in nature and always cosmetic and never structural. Often we even have a hard time finding what made the board become a second. And speaking of us and finding things, we here at PortersTahoe also do one last final QC check on our own before we send out your second. If we find something that we believe to be borderline too much of a blemish, we'll either replace it with a better quality second or call you / email you and ask if you still want it if we are down to the last one. As always, though, we have a lifetime return policy and if you're not happy with the quality of the second board that we send you, we'll gladly take it back at no charge to you whatsoever - including shipping it back to us at our expense.

So bottom line if you're a little short on cash, or are just looking for a way to save some money on a high-end, expensive board from Burton, check out one of our 2010 Burton second snowboards at 10% less than MSRP of a first. We've literally sold thousands of these over the last several years, and we have thousands of very happy customers who saved 10% in buying one.
