Ok so I have not been to SIA in a few years, like maybe 6 years now. Kind of nice to be back in the midst of the craziness. First on my agenda today was to sit down with Megan Grabow, US Marketing Manager for K2 ski, snowboard and skate, and chat about what K2 is pushing for the 2011 season. For the snowboard side K2 is pumping up a new board that they added to the line, the Fastplant. The K2 Fastplant is a board that comes with a 5 years warranty, that’s right kiddies I said 5 year warranty. That is some serious bang for your buck. So why does the Fastplant come with a 5 year warranty? Well as Meghan put it, “you can’t break this board”. The reason for the strength of the Fastplant is the core that K2’s engineers have designed, it is call the Babooyah Laminate Core. This is a core that has a skateboard inspired construction behind it. The laminate of bamboo not only makes this board strong but also gives it mad crazy pop..oh yeah and its 5 year warranty! This twin shaped board has K2’s jib rocker and it is going to be K2’s street and park destroyer. It comes in regular widths as well wides and again with this skate inspired core this shit is “indestructible”!
“K2 is always progressing with its tech but still keeping it affordable” says Meghan. This is very true with their bindings, everything over $199 has K2’s Auto Technology, another great bang for your buck from K2. Also new for this years bindings is the Tweakback Asym Highback, this highback is made from a uber flexi urethane that allows you to maximize your tweaks yet still stay responsive when getting gnar.
K2 is also upping the ante this year with another addition to the green team. Joining the K2 Zero with is eco friendly, bamboo core is the Fastplant. Yep once again I am bringing it up, I am feeling that his board will be a hot commodity for 2011. Eco friendly with a 5 year warranty is a lot better the eco friendly toilet paper..ouch!
