I received a very amped up text message from Ryland Bell this morning saying that and I quote "Tram Face at 8:30". I rushed myself out of my Reno home making sure I got there in time for the comp. I arrived late at 9:00 to a parking lot full of spectators and a tiny lineup at the top of the Tram Face. No one had gone yet & Ryland send me another text saying they were calling for a 9:15 start time. As I was lacing up my boots & organizing camera gear, I looked up at the Face & saw a slide go. It was no tiny fracture either a hefty sized crown snapped and away went the snow! Pure instinct took over as I grabbed my camera not even notiging what setting it was on and was able to snap a few shots of the slide & aftermath. Sure enough, contest called off. The snow was just not stable & safe enough for participants to make a go at it. Looks like we'll have to wait another year.
