Warren Miller's new film - "Dynasty"
Watch the trailer here.
The Lake Tahoe segment in Dynasty includes local, world-class athletes pushing the limits of gravity and the sport while defining in their own words the beauty and cultural elements that comprise the Lake Tahoe experience that lure them back season after season. The astounding athlete roster ranges from former and aspiring Olympians to World Cup champions including Jonny Moseley, Daron Rahlves, Jamie Burge, Errol Kerr and JT Holmes, who were filmed at locations ranging from the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts and surrounding backcountry to the shores of Lake Tahoe itself.
"The prominent presence of seven Ski Lake Tahoe resorts in Warren Miller's Dynasty marries our iconic snowsports destination with a true ski industry icon - Warren Miller films," said John Wagnon, President of Ski Lake Tahoe. "There is no organization better qualified to visually capture Lake Tahoe's legendary terrain, amazing snow depth and world-class ski experience than the film crews at Warren Miller."
The action in the Lake Tahoe segment runs the gamut from massive cliff drops, back flips, scenic turns above the lake, chest-high powder runs following a textbook Tahoe winter storm to the perfectly-pitched steeps and lake views that make Tahoe legendary. The segment includes Olympic-related storylines, including Jamaican Ski Team member Errol Kerr who is training in Lake Tahoe for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. Additionally, the 2009-10 winter season marks the 50th Anniversary of Lake Tahoe hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics.
Lake Tahoe's exposure in Dynasty will help build excitement among skiers and snowboarders for the upcoming season with predictions of an El Niño scenario in the long range weather forecast for Lake Tahoe and plenty of new enthusiast-focused amenities and activities at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts. The El Niño predictions are on point, with the Lake Tahoe area already being blanketed by two storms that have delivered nearly two feet of early season snowfall. In addition, the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts are putting the finishing touches on new lifts, enhanced terrain parks, backcountry programs, and unique clinics and camps that include opportunities to ski with Dynasty film stars. Spyder's new Jamaica Ski Team gear

Kyra Williams writes from Vancouver, BC that she is a big fan of the Jamaica Ski Team. She just purchased her speed suit. This is the first siting of a speed suit since Spyder sent them out to the stores this month.
Kyra skis for the Sunpeaks Alpine Club in Kamloops BC which is near Vancouver.
Special thanks to Kyra's dad for the photos. We hope to see Kyra and her family at the Vancouver Olympics in February 2010.Labels: Alpine Meadows, Errol Kerr, Jamaica, Jamaica Ski Team, jamaicans.com, olympics, Spyder, Vancouver

Here is a short edit of a sunny park day at Alpine. There are some cool GoPro angles I tried mounting it to my ski but it only stayed on for a short period.

Obviously spring is here, and the skiing has been pretty good. There's been great turns to be had at Alpine Meadows and Squaw, but the backcountry is where its at. With the sun getting higher in the sky everyday the options for sun softened snow are really opening up. Between trips down to the east side I've been having fun skiing all over in the Tahoe BC. It was looking like the south side of Jakes was about to melt out for the season so my friend Oscar and I cruised out there for a couple laps yesterday. It is smooth, but going fast, so if you're stoked to get out for some spring backcountry, its a "the sooner the better" situation. Here's a shot from yesterday's mission, I know that any in-shape fifty year old could ski this, but I had fun anyway. Check out the crazy wind affect on the bay...

Jamaica's Errol Kerr to compete in Ski Cross World Championships in Japan
Jamaican skier Errol Kerr, recipient of the Prime Minister's Youth Award, has arrived in Inawashiro, Japan to compete in the Ski Cross World Championships. Official training begins Feb 28th. Qualifications and finals are on Monday, March 2. For more information, please click on the following: World Championships - Inawashiro, Japan
Hotel Listel Inawashiro--
Here's an early report from Homey (Eric Holmer, Errol's coach and technician) on the course in Japan:
"We freeskied and checked out the course today. There aren't many turns, but there are a lot of straight sections that should make for some great passing if the conditions hold out. It's always hard to predict, but this should be a good course for Errol. I know he feels really good about his chances after just seeing it from outside the fence."
Two week break from ski cross world cup (Feb 7-23th)
Kerr took a two week break from the Ski Cross World Cup circuit to focus on some competitions and appearances near home:
North America Cup On February 10th, Errol competed in the North America Cup Super G in Mammoth, California, finishing 12th. He finished ahead of some US Ski Team members, and it was a great result for a racer who has been focusing on ski cross all season.
Sugar Bowl Banzai - On qualification day, Kerr was being filmed at Alpine Meadows in the early morning, and barely made it to Sugar Bowl to inspect the course and decide on his line. The race is six-man wide, big mountain skicross. Amazingly, Errol finished 2nd in the qualifying run, right behind US Ski Team's famous Daron Rahlves. The following day, Kerr "lost his shoes" (came out of his bindings) and did not finish the race.

Errol with Alpine Meadows Ski Team youth - On Saturday, Feb 21st, Errol spent the day leading the Alpine Meadows ski team youth through gullies and jumps. Children reported that they were having the time of their lives following Errol around the mountain. Alpine Meadows is the home training mountain for the Jamaica Ski Team.
For photos, please click on this link: Errol and the Alpine Ski Team
Photos and video of Errol powder skiing at Alpine and Homewood
No ski season is complete without glorious days of skiing in the powder. The Tahoe area was slammed with snow for one week straight, and Errol didn't hesistate to take the opportunity to go out skiing with the film crew at Alpine Meadows in waste deep powder. Lake Placid Freestyle World Cup
In the early days of freestyle skiing the sport was named for the "free" and creative element introduced by athletes who resisted traditional alpine and nordic skiing. Competitions included an all-in-one-run event where skiers were judged on a run that included ballet, moguls and a spontaneous aerial maneuver. Today the evolution of freestyle skiing is made up of six different disciplines; aerials, halfpipe, moguls, dual moguls, ski cross and slopestyle. Each discipline is judged and scored to their own points list. Freestyle skiing was added to the Olympic program in 1992 for moguls, aerials in 1994, and ski cross will debut in the 2010 Olympic Games.
"NBC will air the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup ski cross competition Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Versus will air the Nature Valley Freestyle Challenge aerials competition that same day at 2:00 p.m. ET as well as the Nature Valley Freestyle Cup ski cross show on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3:00 p.m. ET.UniversalSports.com and TV will also carry coverage."

Enviornmentally Friendlier Resorts Transworld Snowboarding.

Going green is the thing right now....We should always try to find a way to lessen our global impact when we can. Here's a little Web article from Tansworld Snowboarding and a shot featuring PortersTahoe.com Team Rider Brandon Cocard at Alpine Meadows. Brandon is currently on the road where he going to be competing in the 2nd stop of the Dew Tour in Vermont! Go Brandon! In the photo here of Brandon...he looks like the kinda guy who would smash his beer cans on his forehead and then throw them away in the Lake. Granted, after his epic volleybal game, he slammed those beers and let "IceMan" dispose of them properly.

Is this video created in slow motion or does Jeremy just ski really slowly? Or what?
In Benson's defense Gaines...I believe this was about 5 or 6 inches of fresh on boiler plate if I'm not mistaken....give the guy a break would ya. Angry warehouse rat!
to whom ever wrote this: If you actually have the skills to back up the comment then lets see it? We will set up a meeting between you and Benson and film the day and post the event for all to see. If you have the balls to post it then have the balls to show it.
LAME, this guy is a pro skier????---wow, keep pushing it guy!.........what a clown, any in shape fifty year old could ski half the lines this guy goes after.......you are a ski model if that, don't want to hate too much here, but if ya can't do ANY tricks and you can't stick big airs off cliff's should you really be a "pro" freeskier????? Shave the soul patch and get on with your life BRO! and don't think I'm just goin off the nonsense pov vids posted on here-----anyone who lives around here knows what up with this weak cat---nuff said!!
hey Anonymous... how gay are you that you can't even put your name in here and had to bash a guy when the snow was 6 inches on rock hard... Take up the challenge you puss
So has the Lame ass "Anonymous" who left that comment come forward yet? Sounds like a guy who likes to talk big but only knows how to Pizza / French Fry to me.
Awww, I'm so touched that anyone cares. Clearly I didn't realize that this short clip of video would be under such scrutiny, nor was it my submission for the radness award. My intention for this short video clip was to show that snow conditions in the area were still alright, and that I'd had a fun time skiing in the backcountry with my friends. Next time I'll be sure to throw at least one double grab, and maybe a 100 foot lawn dart, just to up the progression.
Also, as it turns out, I am a glorified ski model. I know that. I've also done a limited amount of actual male modelling, but I prefer the ski modelling because they don't make me wear make-up. Don't be an internet weenie, if you've got a problem with me and how I ski, and apparently you know who I am, grab a few runs with me. I'd happily take a few runs with anyone, I'm really a pretty nice guy...

Dear Jeremy,
During the first half of the video, when you are standing up there looking around, what were you thinking about? "Buttress...mmmmm, butt. BUTT. Buttocks. I love BUTT." That is my guess.

When I was fixing a flat tire on my mountain bike last friday I had no idea the dumping that we were in for. The weather looked promising at the time, but at no point did it mention that we'd have 4 feet of new snow in three days. The fresh 40+ inch layer of superlight fluff has turned my dreams into a reality and I've gotten face shots for the past three days. It looks like Alpine Meadows will be open top to bottom starting Friday, and people who skied at Squaw today said that it was "pretty freaking good". I've been taking full advantage of the hiking opportunities and getting fresh lines down pretty much whatever I want thanks to my Marker Dukes, while trying not to get too deep into the snow. We did get plastered, but its pretty much all the snow we've got, so pay attention and be careful out there. There are snow snakes aplenty out there right now, so stay light on your feet and keep your tips up. Significant settling has occurred over the past several days, so the bottom has become more difficult to find, but not that difficult. Looks like there is more on the way, so get ready to shred pow until you can't even stand up. For information on avalanche conditions check out www.sierraavalanchecenter.org. Have fun, and see you out there.

Needless to say everyone in my household was pumped that it was snowing too. Beers were cracked, and bowls were packed we wasted no time and began celebrating immediately. We started it out by having what I like to call a “super session” Two guitars, an acoustic bass, mandolin, keyboard, harmonica, alto sax, bongos, and an array of common household items used to make cultural percussion sounds. There were only four of us so I had to step it up by playing numerous instruments at a mediocre level. My buddy Pieper killed it on the mandolin, my roommate Double D played rhythm guitar and random percussion, and my roommate Hubey laid down a tasty bass groove. (There is a link below to listen to it if you have the time check it out.)
The super session lasted almost 12min but we stopped due to the bright lightening strikes coming from outside. We all decided to throw on our snow gear and hit the neighborhood hill for a little late night sledding. We armed ourselves with a couple of saucers, a skate deck, and a boogie board/reverse camber POW sled. Oh yeah and my buddy made his own port wine from California’s finest vines so we each held on to some of that. There was not a huge amount of cover on the sledding hill so we had to be somewhat cautious. We were charging through weeds and things since there was only like 6 inches at this point. There were a few rag dolls some spilt port and a lot of laughs. Nobody was injured but everyone was soar and the only thing lost in the fiasco was a pair of 2 year old anon goggles.
Its crazy the way snow can make everyone so happy so quickly. Those 6 to 8 inches inspired my friends and I to rage on a Monday night like college freshman, jam out like a bunch of burning man hippies, and sled around like kids on a snow day all in a matter of a hours. Lets hope these good times keep coming but meanwhile lets just enjoy the snow and be happy that we don’t live on the east coast, because this would be the storm for the winter.
PS. Here is a sneak peak of my traveling circus theme song. This is the full version unedited.

If Scott is your destination head left and enjoy a nice fire road that climbs and descends alot. The final turn will be a left that you will not miss, it goes UP. Take this fire road all the way to the top, and it starts out with an easy climb that keeps going up and as you get closer to the top it gets more technical and steeper. But once you arrive at the top you will enjoy amazing views with very limited blockage of your views. The best part of this ride... you get to go back down and its a fun, fast float of a downhill ride. There are so many options to get back home that I just go back to Paige and aim towards Flinstones which dumps you out near Tahoe City Lumber. I wish I could detail the ride better but all in all its a tough ride, bring lots of water and your climbing legs. The ride can be around 17-20 miles with a good elevation gain that tops out at Lakeveiw chair in Alpine Meadows. Don't be afraind to ask direction when your on the trail because you can easily get lost with the vast trail system.

Nothstar... what can you say but fun. Squaw, compared to years past I would say they deserve an honorable mention for the updated park features. Alpine, the word is that they are doing some really good work over in the meadow. Homewood, poor little homewood, I last rode there christmas day and I honestly can say it was one of my best days this season, but on the park side of things well, can't do much when there isn't much snow. But I love that little mountain anyway. Sugarbowl, our own team rider Devin "the dude" price works over there and word is that JP is building a great park this year. Boreal... well the whole hill is a park so how can you go wrong.
Now that snow is here its time to venture away from the parks till the spring time.
