Birthday Park Shredit

Earlier this week I turned 26 years young. Skiing on Monday and my Birthday felt like April. It was actually pretty nice to get out there and just shred some park with the sun out. I was riding with a new addition to the Porters Ski Team Peter Kukesh. Representing the 382 crew of NH Peter, Pat Melvin, Andrew Putnam (Alpine Freeride coach) all had some nice tricks up their sleeves. I did not do so bad either considering my old age. I want to thank there buddy Tyler for posting up and filming us on the jump line. That really added a lot to this edit having some alternate shots.

check it.

Line Skis Preview for 2011

So the past few weeks I tried out a few different pairs of next years Line Skis. The new Eric Pollard pro model which is stiffer and has what Line calls “thin tip” (get your head out of the gutter). I skied them in the morning while everything was still super fresh. They were sick I thought the stiffer flex helped with stomping bigger cliffs. The thin tip for sure reduced swing weight, made it a little easier to swing them around to ride switch (aka jailhouse). They are still that same style EP that is heavily surf inspired in my opinion. Laying down monster slashes and buttering off stuff is not a problem with the EP’s once again.

Once things started to get chopped out a little I switched up to the new Sir Francis Bacon’s. Next year they have early rise in the tip and tail which I am super stoked on. They killed it and they were one of the most fun and versatile skis I have been on .They would make a great backcountry ski for someone who is more of a newschooler. Since they are stiffer then the EP’s and skinnier, they are a little less of a pow specific ski and handled the chop really well. They also brought back the black and white striped bases which makes them ideal for all you steeze bots trying to get on the cover of the Sierra Sun.

Last but never least I tried the new Blends, this year they added early rise and a softer flex. This is the ultimate everyday ski; it’s able to handle pretty much any type of snow conditions. Which you will see in this video, I hit the park, send some chutes, and even find some week old powder stashes. If you are looking for a one quiver ski then the blend would be a wise choice. The softer flex and early rise makes it more playful and really fun to ski. It also helps with keeping them on top of softer snow. I highly recommend all three of these skis depending on your ability and style of skier.

I wonder if it being stiffer will actually be able to handle chop and crud. Does anyone know what it can be compared to..?

Billy Mann Goes To Whistler

So I gave Billy Mann a GoPro to take up to Whistler with him. The snow ended up not being the greatest but he managed to have a great time. I knew Billy was really energetic but after editing his footage I realize how crazy and off the wall he is. Check it super funny

I wonder what people thought when they saw Billy dancing with a broom, then what they thought when they saw how good he was at skiing. keep on shredding.

Yes, it is snowing that hard.

Its been snowing for days here in Lake Tahoe. The past couple of days have been epic to say the least. Today high winds and heavy snow kept most of the area's lift accesible terrain closed, but there were ample deep untracked powder turns available in the Lake Tahoe Backcountry. The skiing only improved throughout the day as the rate of snowfall and velocity of the winds increased. My new GoPro HD worked flawlessly, and I still can't believe that such a small camera can shoot HD video with such good color. Check out some of my clips from today. It was my first day skiing on some of next years Elan Olympus skis, and I'd have to say that I enjoyed them thoroughly. Sorry if the video is a little long, but hopefully you like Guns and Roses...

Alpine Meadows Freeride Team

Not only does Tim Cussen help customers with outstanding service here at Porters. He also helps coach the Alpine Meadows freeride team with fellow coach Andrew Putnam. I spent the day with Andrew and his group of grom slayers in the park last weekend. I had a really fun day riding with them and this is a short little recap of the day. I am sure you will see more of these kids later on in the year.

Coach's : Andrew Putnam & Tim Cussen

Skiers:

Skiing the Buttress

So I skied the buttress this morning at Alpine. There was a few other guys that got out there first, but there was still some great snow. Benson emailed me a few days ago and told me to ski the Buttress for him, since he is out of town doing stuff for Columbia.

It got me the thinking that I have never skied center line of the buttress. So I called Lars and asked if he would cover the live chat for an hour or two, he unhappily agreed. So myself and a whole 7 people waited for the rope to drop for the hikes at Alpine. I wish I sent it a little bigger but whatever it was still fun line.

Zak and Eric HD gopro action

CLICK on VIewer to watch VIDEO

So during the dew tour at breckenridge I had one day off from shooting photos to ride so I stopped by the gopro booth to say whats up to my bros and I got bombarded with HD gopros. Between Eric Willett and I (Zak Shelhamer) we had 6 brand new HD gopro following our every move at 60 frames a second. Thanks to Khris Jamieson (Jaymo) and gopro for hooking it up with the sweet edit!

Face Shots & Core Shots (part2)

So here is part 2 of Face Shots and Core Shots. The visibility was a lot better you can see how non crowded squaw was. Pretty sick for early season blower. Its a good thing that I ski on Line's because the fatty base & fatty edge allowed me to blast over the rocks like it was my job. For the record not one core shot in the 2 days of skiing on rocks.

"Nicky B Goes HD"

So I went to Boreal on Sunday to ride with a new addition to the Porters Ski Team Matt Nelson. I also ran into Snowboard Team members Chris Bosco and Alex Horgan. I was playing with the new GoPro HD, which is so sick as you will see. I also ran into "Mad Mike" aka Skier Dad aka Rad Dad. I have not fully introduced myself to him yet but I plan on doing a "Rad Dad" interview with him at some point this winter. I also here his son is a ripping skier as well perhaps we will see more of these local shredders in future Turk a Lurk edits.

Enjoy
