Tonight at 50/50 the premiere of "Throw Your Panties". Come in your "best" Christmas sweater and bring a long any old jackets to donate to keep others warm....because you know it is freezing ass cold outside right now. The evening starts off at 9:30pm at 50/50, it is 21 and over and no cover. Oh and stick around for the merry musical styling of Hunks of Metal.

Are you kidding me? That's in there Catalog? That's the Sh*t you see walking to the hill in Stretchy pants!

Blogger Chunder
Yeah, that's seriously in their catalog. I poop you not. Again, if someone needs more proof than this to shop at stores like Porters and not REI, Mal-Wart, Sports Warehouse, then a tack-hammer to the dome-piece is the next option

No Correct Way @ Kingvale

If you didn't make it out to the Rome "No Correct Way" premiere at Kingvale you missed out on a great time. The event kicked off with a skate jam at the mini ramp, some ankles were rolled and some knees were bruised. Then people moved on to the tie-dye tents where NoCal Rome Rep John Graham and Porters chica Kasey were showing folks how to tie-dye. Then the taco truck rolled in and people started to fill their belly's on some great tacos, tostadas, quesadillas and burritos. They were delicious, thanks Gustavo! There were random tubs placed around Kingvale full of PBR, Coors Light and bottles water, all for FREE. Surprisingly no one got out of hand, way to go snowboard crowd, I am impressed.

The Red Bull event guys showed up just after dark and started to blow up their screen and the JG pushed play. Rome riders John Foy and Marius Otterstad were on hand to see the movie and hang out with the crowd.

During the movie John Graham ran up the hill and put a snowboard and a couple of pairs of bindings at the top. After the movie the first people to the top got the goodies. Not very many folks went for the run uphill.... I think too many of them had too many cig butts because the group that made the run was very small. After the run the music started off with a MC from the Bay Area followed up by Cohesion a band from North Lake Tahoe.

All in all it was a good time. Thanks to all that came out.

THE iCER aIR: BY BRANDON COCARD

This weekend was the fourth annual Icer Air in San Francisco, and it was a doozy. when we first pulled up to the "Westin St. Francis," i thought, "holy jeeze are we in the right place?" Before i could even ask somebody about parking, my trucks valet cherry was popped and i was left standing in the lobby with my board and all my gear, which seemed to attract many "what the f@ck" stares, as if i had a weird lizard baby tucked under my arm.

The room that they put me and Taylor Carlton in was ridiculously fancy like. The mini bar was stocked and ready to go...too bad one can of beer was $8.75! It was a real test of self restraint haha. i passed but Taylor had such a stressful drive through the city he grabbed a beer immediately like he would have given his first born child for it. "I don't even care man, that was hell," he said. Driving through downtown San Francisco is like running through hedge maze with a blindfold on! "I know what you mean man," i said.

That night we celebrated the fact that we were in the fanciest hotel we have ever been in and we weren't paying a dime. "cheers to living in luxury," we agreed and the bottles popped, the champagne flowed, and the good times kept getting better.
we awoke in a bit of a daze but the reality of the big day ahead set in immediately, making it impossible to sleep in. All i can say is good thing we showed up early because everything was in order and competitors were lined up to gini the perfect backside hip....hahaha not! we showed up and were like, "where is the jump? that can't be it! there is no snow on it!" sure enough a big pile of wood and scaffolding was a jump that was "soon" to be. Taylor, Eric Asistin, and i didn't even think the event was going to happen.
To relieve the stress and anticipation Taylor and I took a trip to a nearby park in McCovey Cove and rest our hungover heads on a field of grass. We shared a cigarette a day dreamed of winning the contest and what we would do with our 15 G's. "Perhaps we should go back to the event," we thought. So we did.

Upon our return we noticed great progress in the lip and landing and i began to invision what was to become of the unfinished set up. Before i could blink it was time to test it.
Holy Shiza Minuten that rope tow thing was so sketchy! Before it was my turn to try it for the first time, all i could hear was my heart pounding and the murmur of the distant announcer selling the crazy "catapult" device to the crowd. "the Catapult came all the way from New Zealand," the announcer claimed. "It is its first time in The States and it will be towing the competitors from 0-60 mph's in under 3 seconds. "GREAT" i thought. "that sounds so safe and fun!" holding on to that rope tow was like riding the biggest, baddest, most f'ed up Bull at the rodeo. you could only hold on for so long before you were forced to abandon your grip, otherwise your arms were ripped clean off hahaha. or at least that's how it felt. as soon as you dropped the rope you couldn't even blink before you were at the top of the lip, and then you were on your own from there. It was so sketchy all of the riders decided to give the best trick $5000 while everyone else splits the rest of the $30,000 prize purse evenly. if you do the math we all walked away with about 2 grand...not bad for a days work!

Highlights of the event included Chaz's backside rodeo 7's, Wyatt Caldwell's cab-5, Ian Thorley's double back flip, and of coarse Chris Sorman soaring way above the deck of the beast.
After the event i limped back to the hotel room, sore as a biscuit, and continued right where i left off the night before...with all of my friends and more bottles of $10 dollar champagne than anybody has ever seen in one evening. So far, i can easily say that it was the best weekend of my life! Cheers!

I'm Not Gonna Do What Everybody Thinks I'm Gonna Do....

After five years of beers, tequila, crashes, broken skis, several sets of stitches, lots of cork footbeds and way to many ski boots fixes, and just generally good times, I'm leaving Porters. To those who thought it would never happen, I say, well... almost.

It's been a wild and fun ride, but now it's time to move on to another position elsewhere in the industry. All I can say is that I've had an unbelievable time working here, I've met a lot of great people, and probably pissed off many more. When I moved to Tahoe in October of 2003, I walked in the door of Porters looking for a job, and aside from the decision to move to Tahoe in the first place, it's been the best call I've ever made. From the end of season parties to trips down to Vegas for SIA; from tent sales, CL Smoothes, and fourth of july roof parties to hot dogs and Mama C's tamales, I'm going to miss the fun times; and I am going to sincerely miss working with every single person in this company. Fortunately, I won't be going to far. Even from my new position I'll still be able to hear Alex getting irritated, Eleanor shouting for Josh, and new warehouse employees hitting the side of the warehouse with the forklift.

So in celebration of the place I've spent an awesome five years, and the people who have made it so badass, here's a small collection of the pix I've accumulated over the years. It's a fun little flashback to a time when some people had longer hair, some had different colored hair, and some just looked thinner, regardless of their hair length or hair color [at that particular point of the season].

I present to you all, the 'Adventures of Porters: 2003-2008', in no particular order. Enjoy....

To everyone at Porters, thanks again for a great time...

your name isn't shy of the top. And I thank you for that. You will do a bang up job, I know it, we all know it. Best of Luck

SASS

Yo,

Argentina is still off the chain. Today all the new campers came in for session 4, which was weird because I was becoming good friends with everyone from session 3. But its all good!!

Today wasn't to special because it rained last night. So we just jibbed around the mountain jumping off little cliffs and rocking out to some metal.

Im suppose to be leaving in two weeks, but Luke Shelly, Travis Moore, and John Sang (owners of SASS) are hooking it up. So i'll be here for another month, which im freaking stoked about!!!

There was suppose to be a contest today, but it got cancelled because of the rain. I'm not sure when its going to be, but ill keep you posted.

PEACE!!

SASS

Hey Porters!

Everything is going great down here. Ive been sick for the past couple days but i'm feeling much better now. Its been snowing for about 4 days now. The past couple days we have just been shredding around the mountain trying to find stuff to jib because the snow has been to unstable to ride the upper mountain.

Yesterday we took some shots jumping over this tree that had about a 15 foot drop on the other side. It was pretty fun.

Today the Mountain was closed because it snowed so much last night and its super windy up top. So, we had an avalanche course and watched some snowboard videos.

There is a new podcast on sasnowsessions.com that was updated yesterday. I have a few shots, one about half way, and the closing shot. (podcast #3)

Ill keep you updated.

Bobby

Floatin' the Truckee

Ever since the indigenous Washoe Indians began floating down the Truckee River in 900 B.C. as a form of relaxation and fun, floating from Tahoe City to the River Ranch has been a summer tradition for locals and visitors alike.

Much has changed since those early days.  Back then, the tribe primarily used the primitive River Run 1 by Intex, and the police rode saber-toothed tigers along the bikepath, rather than bikes, which had not yet been invented.  Alcohol was consumed out of hollowed-out gourds.  Today, most people use the more recent River Run 2, still made almost 3,000 years later by the venerable Intex Corporation.  It is sought after thanks to its inflatable headrest and mesh bottom.  We drink alcohol out of space-age cans that feature Frost-Brew Liners and futuristic wide-mouth openings (now with Air Vent!).  And the cops were forced to abandon saber-tooth tigers due to their untimely extinction in the mid-1970's.

The Porters Warehouse Crew, in addition to former Tahoe locals Rockwood and Davis, in addition to our friends Ryan and Jamie and their 20 Bay Area friends, were all on the river this weekend for some good times.  Fun was had.  Oh, and we almost killed, but then saved, a little kid... see last photo.
