When were you first interested in skiercross?
When I was 11 years old, the Ski Cross World Chamionships were at Squaw Valley.  I heard about it, and my mom signed me up.  I almost qualified to the rounds.

Last year you were a rookie.  They called you the “young gun”.  How do you feel about this coming year?
I feel excited about the year ahead.  A lot has changed since then.  We’ve gone out and started a team of our own.  I have my own technician, which makes a huge difference, and I’m used to the circuit.

What is your favorite type of ski cross course?
I like a wide course, so that there’s plenty of room for passing.  The narrow courses tend to favor the person who gets the hole shot.  I like plenty of jumps, including big ones.

When did you start skiing?
I started skiing at the age of five.  And then I decided to start snowboarding.  I saw some downhill racing on TV, and thought it was really exciting, and grabbed a pair of skis and never looked back.  That was when I was 11.

What do you like about being home in Tahoe?
In the sport that I do, I get to travel around the world.  And after being around the world now, four or five times, there is no where else in the world I’d rather live than Tahoe.  Unless you grew up here and enjoy the simpler and slower things in life, then this isn’t the place for you.  But since I did, and I love it, there is nothing like coming home, spending a day at the lake, or a day in the mountains skiing, skiing the bowls at Alpine Meadows.  Just like today, I am sitting at my house, looking outside at the beautiful place that I was able to grow up in.  Watching Tahoe change now, as I am getting older, I hope that it will be just as nice as when this next generation gets to grow up here.

What do you feel is special about having a ski team from Jamaica?
It’s like having a bobsled team from Jamaica.  It’s going to be exciting.  We are going to get momentum behind it.  And we are just going to ride the tidal wave all the way from here on out.

What’s great about Porters?
Let’s just say, they are the new wave of ski shops sweeping the Tahoe area.  Porters is one of the cool places.  You can go in and find they have the new styles, the new hip sunglasses.  It is a great ski shop that I have always shopped at.  And, now, to be able to ski for them….!!!!  I guess there are just little steps and ladders to climb on your way to the top, and this is one of them.  They have such a great program.  I came up through their sponsorship program, and they have been awesome to work with.  They have helped me out with some stuff that I have needed to compete, and they have come to some competitions, and helped cover them.  And to do their promotions with them, they are just such a great team to work with.  I feel so happy and proud to be able to represent Porters.

Why do you race?
Because it is simple:  only one competitor wins; only one racer is the best at the end of the day.  You don’t have to argue about how big the jump was, how cool your trick was, or how sick the line was you skied.  There is no more arguing about who won or lost.  So, when it is all done, I just want to take a pair of skis and show the world how far your dreams can take you.
