Stuck in a weather warp

11/28/08 9:10am
Positive PNA pattern staying with us as a La Nina base state drives our weather. Currently a ridge is building off the CA coast and will shift East overland of CA/NV the next few days. Rising heights will mean a sizable temperature increase at mountain top level and strong inversions. Dry weather and calm winds will stay with us for a few days, mainly into mid next week. Temperatures in Truckee will be in the mid 50's, while upper 40's at 8000'.

Progressive pattern continues into the PacNW, with the jet keeping all the energy North of Tahoe. Inconsistencies in the model solutions develop by mid next week with the possibility of the jet sinking South and giving us some love. This is a slim possibility at this time. Looking at the CPC's 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks doesn't raise much hope as below normal precip and above normal temps are shown. I don't usually rely on these forecasts much, but they do tell the story we are currently living out.

So a pretty mellow Thanksgiving weekend. If you are looking to get some turns in, Mammoth Mtn has gotten 6" of snow lately, and they are open top to bottom. Boreal, Mt Rose offer options to schralp.

5-14 Day Outlook:
Progressive pattern continues into PacNW. No definite plans for snow/ precip into Tahoe at this time. Jet may sink South after 11/7. Will have to wait and watch what happens. Best case scenario is high pressure retrogrades West on/about 11/7 to allow storms to affect the region.
