When will it finally snow?
12/1/08 9:35pm
When will it finally snow? Who knows?
What is happening for certain, it is warm and windy. As of 9pm it is 36F with W-SW 70mph winds on Mt Rose. This is in response to the high pressure shifting East as a shortwave rolls into Oregon. Warm- yes, it was 62F in Truckee today.
For the next few days (into next week) expect above average temperatures and uneventful weather. The storm track will remain North of Tahoe, affecting the BC coast and PacNW.

5-14 Day Outlook:
Talk around the circle of fortune tellers seems to center on a presumed retrogression of this ridiculous ridge by mid-month. Funny- this same discussion was happening around the end of October when looking at mid-Nov into Thanksgiving week. Eyes of those watching are now pointed at convective waves coming off Eastern Africa, how they progress through the Indian Ocean and what they do when reaching the Western Tropical Pacific. So, hang tight. I could post a few lines by various forecasters and climatologists, but in the end, it will happen when it happens. It's the Sierra. Everything can change in 1 or two storms. We can go from nothing to a 5-8ft base in a matter of days. It has happened before and can happen again. Sit back and crack open a cold one because it will still be some time until any precipitation lands on the Sierra Crest.
