Stormy Pattern Next Week???

5/27/09 10:35pm
Thunderstorms pushed West off the crest today due to E-SE winds switching SW. Some beneficial rains fell West of the crest along the length of the Sierra, especially in the Lassen area. Thursday will see more thunderstorm development with better chances of rain in the North Lake Tahoe area. By Friday, conditions further improve for thunderstorm activity. There is also a chance of strong, gusty winds produced by storms Friday. Temps should top out in the upper 70s in Truckee tomorrow, cooling into the 60s by Monday. At elevation, high temps in the low 60s cooling through the 50s by Monday. Night time lows will be in the 30's and 40's through the weekend. The chance for afternoon thunderstorms is consistent in the forecast through the period at this point.

An interesting pattern could develop next week. Starting late Monday/ Tuesday time frame we could see a strong troughy pattern develop over the West Coast. The overall pattern of unsettled, showery weather and cooler temps is agreed upon, the intensity is in question. If the 00Z GFS has its way, we could see a potential full on wet pattern develop through the bulk of next week. Of course the 00Z GFS is an outlier.

Recreational possibilities abound currently. Hiking, fishing, golfing, high elevation skiing and mountain biking all within a few miles of each other. It's a good time of year in Tahoe. No crowds and endless opportunity. The mountain biking will improve to all-time status through this weekend and into next week.

I am back in the driver's seat after attending a kick ass wedding in New Orleans this past weekend. Congrats again to the Schneeds!
