Legit Fresh Snow, Depending on Where You Are
10/4/09 10:09am
Depending on your location this morning will determine how much snow you got last night. Out here in East Truckee there isn't much to speak about. Squaw, Alpine, Sugar Bowl and the other North Lake Tahoe resorts received a few inches up top while the big winners are South Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Crest South of Lake Tahoe. Earlier this morning, a lake effect snow band developed off Lake Tahoe and left a few inches in South Lake, and 4-6" in the higher elevations continuing all the way to Mammoth. Web cams show snow covered roads in SLT, and the Mammoth cams show it still pounding. Pounding is a figurative term for early season snow showers. Regardless the weekly transition from full on summer to more of a late fall/early winter feel is complete. Last Sunday it was 85F in Truckee. Today's high is 40F. Pretty much since our large wind event last Monday/ Tuesday fall is here and winter is nipping at our nose.
For today, snow showers should redevelop over the region as the cold, moist, unstable pool of air hangs around through tonight. Snow showers, snow pellets and light rain is possible below 6k. The low pushes East tonight and leaves Tahoe under N-NE flow keeping high temps around 50F until Wednesday when heights will rise and ridging takes hold. NW flow will prevail the rest of the week keeping us dry. Right now, no confidence in any more precip in the next 7 days. Next chance for a storm might be around 10/14. Well see.....
