Colder temps and light snow coming
11/10/09 7:13am
Prognosis is good. Snow will return to Tahoe. Current thinking is the slower solution, but not as much moisture as we had hoped. HPC H2O guidance shows ~.25" for Truckee by end of day Thursday, and close to .5" along the Tahoe Sierra Crest. This equates out to about 3" in town and up to 6" along the Crest. Temps will be in the low 20s @ 10k, so the snow will be a light, powdery variety, not the Sierra slop. Snow levels will start out @7k+/- and drop to below lake level, possibly down to Reno by Thursday morning. Timing looks to be Wednesday afternoon/evening for the beginning and action should taper mid-day Thursday, hanging on longer along the TSC. Temps will be in the upper 30s in Truckee by Thursday, 20s @ 8k. The system possibly for Friday/ Saturday is in question.
There will be another update when this afternoon's forecast package comes out. Might be time to put the snow tires on the ride.
