Cool, Wet Weekend....maybe?
11/3/09 10:32am
Warm one out there today with a forecast high of 69F in Truckee. Feels not so much like November. But alas a pattern change is on the way, although it won't be the kick off to the ski season.
The models are showing a quicker time frame for this weekend's weather. Currently high pressure situated at the dateline will shift East over the next few days. By Thursday it will be around 160-150W, which is perfect for wet weather in Tahoe. The ridge should stay there for 24-36hrs before a continuation of its eastern progression, which will eventually put the ridge back over the Central West Coast by Monday. For the time frames of Thursday night and again on Saturday, we should see organized precip in the region, but low QPF. Right now we are looking at about .5" H2O on the Western side of the crest. Not a lot, and we will be on the Southern edge of the jet, so snow levels will remain fairly high.
So, for today and Wednesday, sunny and warm. Nuff said. Thursday will feature increasing clouds and winds (possibly strong winds) and precip by evening. Snow levels on Thursday night will start out ~8k and drop after the cold front. Saturday's precip *should* be more of a snow variety but there is still low confidence in the forecast. Expect temps in the low 40s in Truckee this weekend, with low 30s @ 8k.
More to come as we get closer.
