Could this be the beginning?

11/15/09 7:27am
Lots to talk about this morning. This week could possibly hold the season beginning storms we have been looking for.

The past couple of days have seen the coolest temps yet this fall which has allowed for snowmaking by local resorts. Hard to talk about snowmaking while looking at pictures from Mt Baker in WA or Whistler in BC with waist deep turns on their opening days. But hold on to your boots, we might just get what we are jonesin for.

Today, Sunday will be a fair day, maintaining the cool temps due to the inversions that have set up over the last 12hrs. High pressure setting up overhead has trapped the cool air in the valleys, couple that with the Easterly flow, temps will not rise all that much, although a bit warmer than yesterday. Should see highs in the mid 40s today. Tomorrow the ridge starts to slide East in response to the strong low dropping out of the GoAK. Winds will switch to a SW direction tomorrow which will allow temps to rise into the 50s. Balmy. High clouds will also increase on Tuesday and by Tuesday night we should see some light snow showers with snow levels around 5500'. This first bit of energy is not impressive at all, but what it is doing is setting the stage, "priming the pump" for what's next. As of this morning, the forecast is looking good for a main event on Thursday night->Friday. HPC H2O 5-day precip forecast shows a 2.5" bullseye just West of the TSC. Snow levels for this second storm look to be ~5000'. We are 4 days out, so there is still time for things to change, but first call is about 2', maybe more along the TSC by Saturday. We will see how this shapes up over the next few days. Things can change for the better, but also we could get the good ol' Sierra Stiff Arm (SSA). You will sure hear the talk around town.

More to come......
