Crab In My Shoemouth

Lake Tahoe Area Weather and Snowpack Information

2/5/10 7:49pm

Interesting times as the forecast seems to change every 24hrs. Bright side of this is the changes are for the better. In the short term, snow showers tonight and Saturday will add up to 6"+/- along the TSC, the West Shore will fair the best for places below 7g's as Truckee and points East see only light accumulations. Nothing huge, but fresh snow nonetheless. Conditions are midwinter perfect right now, and are only going to get better.

Points South of Tahoe, mainly from Mammoth->Southern Sierra will see decent snows over the next two days. 1' around Mammoth and 2-3' in the High Sierra. QPF down there over the next three days tallies about 3".

For Tahoe, temps in the 20s will be the norm @ 8k with clouds and snow showers for pretty much the next 7-10 days. Winds are from the South tonight and Saturday before diminishing and tracking to the North by Sunday. Forecast for the longer term is looking quite good as a split flow pattern develops off the Eastern Pacific and a blocking pattern sets up over the midwest resulting in systems continually impacting the region. The Pacjet will stay focused on SoCal in true El Nino style, so we sill stay along the Northern edge as the bulk of the moisture stays with the jet stream. Snow levels look to stay 5000' and lower. Timing looks to have storms hitting on Monday night-> Tuesday and again Wednesday night-> Thursday. These shots of energy don't look overly impressive, but fresh snow every couple days is great for good riding and a stable snowpack. There doesn't seem to be any sunny days in the forecast.

Enjoy.
