Double Barreled
Lake Tahoe Area Weather and Snowpack Information
2/4/10 8:30pm
Tonight I am liking what I am seeing. After a day or two of downplaying, double barreled low pressure systems in the Eastern Pacific are progressing East and gaining strength. Current H2O forecast between tonight and Saturday is ~2.5" along the TSC, falling off pretty quick East of the crest. Winds are W-SW gusting to 89mph currently along the Tahoe Crest. Heaviest wind are currently in Yosemite high country @ 102mph East of Saddlebag Lake. Wind gusts are forecast to maintain velocity switching S-SW through Friday, slowly diminishing Friday night into Saturday. Overall snowfall accumulations in the Tahoe Basin will be 1-2' above 7k, with 6" or so along the West Shore and 2-6" in Truckee by Saturday night. There is a chance we might see greater accumulations if snow levels don't get as high as currently forecast resulting in more favorable snow-2-water ratios. Current consensus is 6k dropping to 4500'.
We are setting up for another really good weekend of skiing riding with fresh snow and cold temps. Both Friday and Saturday morning should feature storm day conditions with snow showers tapering by later in the day Saturday-> Sunday. Temps will stay in the mid 30s in Truckee and mid 20s @8k.
Enjoy.
