Flip a coin
Lake Tahoe Area Weather and Snowpack Information
2/17/10 10:33am
High pressure still dominant over Tahoe today as another warm day plays out. A tease of spring skiing conditions right now as South facing shots have corn (switching to sloppy wet snow by afternoon) and a wintery mix of all sorts of surface conditions on the Northern shots.
Ridge starts to break down tomorrow as Pacific energy from multiple angles beats it up. Problem is the forecast models are changing within 24hr time spans right now, so as for a solid forecast of what might happen in the next few days is anyone's guess. My best impersonation of a weather guy tells me that Tahoe will see light/ moderate precip Friday->Saturday, and maybe into Sunday. Snow levels will be ~6000' or lower. H2O forecast shows ~.75" over the next five days. 6-10" along the TSC between Friday night and Sunday seems reasonable with the lack of confidence moving forward.
So the weekend is a crap shoot, although it will be cooler and cloudier than the past few days. As for next week, the models used to show a train of storms impacting CA, but now models are divergent and the MJO has fizzled.
I have to wait another day and see if the models come back in line, or NWS Reno/ Sacto can figure out with a better brain what might occur. Regardless, it looks like El Nino is still holding tight to the Southern Pacific Jet as it continues to be aimed at Socal/ Baja. Stay tuned, Winter is not over yet!
