Way to go Reno!
Lake Tahoe Area Weather and Snowpack Information
2/21/10 6:10pm
Crazy weather happenings last night and this morning. A cold front stalled just NE of Truckee, from about Lassen to SE of Sparks and produced heavy snowfall in a very narrow band. North Reno/ Sun Valley received 2'+ of fresh pow, Reno downtown got 1'+, while Truckee clocked an amazing 2". Goes back to that old saying, what happens when hell freezes over? Well, if Reno is so close to hell you can see Sparks, I guess now that hell is frozen over I can ski there too.
Snow showers will continue tonight in Tahoe where 4-6" of additional accumulations are possible above 7k. Tomorrow should be a great day of riding, but be aware of the dreaded East wind. That is what we will have tomorrow, E winds gusting 30mph early. Snow showers might pop along the TSC on Monday.
Tuesday's/ Wednesday's system is still on tap, with anywhere from 1-2" of H2O forecast depending on what model you are looking at. Snow levels will start quite high on Tuesday, ~6500'+/- (7k?) but will drop as the cold front passes. So anywhere from 1-2' of new snow by Wednesday night along the crest, but I feel the 2' totals will be farther South, more of the Mammoth area.
Thursday looks dry before another round Friday->Saturday. We might suffer from the torments of split flow for the late week storm, but more clarity is needed before we get into potential snowfall totals.
Have a fun week. The best skiing in the country is right here in Tahoe/ Sierra and is only going to get better.
